BACKGROUND - RESTORING WOMEN’S CONTROL OF NUTRITION
Women in the western world are facing unprecedented challenges (balancing family, children, finances, career) with personal issues (obesity, physical/mental health, social status). This is an offbeat summary of some options - normally outside of common discourse - that suggests taking an aggressive course away from cupcakes, celebrities and fashion, toward two-fisted management of traditional roles.
Rituals like sharing the preparation of the evening meal, with wine and conversation, can return any couple to physical and mental stability - almost immediately - the couple that loses 40 pounds together, stays together. The future opens up to us.
The idea is that if women take uncompromised control of dinner preparation, and a spouse/man takes responsibility for their own, necessary role - the warmth of the hearth and home shall once again triumph - as we steadily return to lean health.
Options 2 and 3 may seem like blue sky dreaming, and are the sort of things men amuse themselves with, yet are most likely to return women to positions of responsible control in human society - a transition sorely needed by our rudderless species.
1) Nutrition - Women rebuilding the health of everyone
In ‘developed’ countries there is an accelerating, deadly trend toward universal T2 diabetes, brought on by industrial farming practices and their cheap, ‘factory food’ products. Ingredients include GMO corn, soy & wheat - crops in the expanding grip of Ag-multinationals; featuring veganism - entailing more artificial fertilizer, pesticides & herbicides produced by Bayer, Monsanto and the rest of the Big Chemical giants.
Worst of all may be seed oil refining - said to increase the average daily caloric intake in the US by 700 cal/day. The Big Sugar cabal has ensured that à la carte carb confections be presented as food, when in truth their motor oils have more nutrition. The end result must be endemic obesity, with the majority of Americans now overweight - and adrift. Yet these can be sidestepped via personal education.
The facts are plainly laid out via YouTube for anyone to assess in detail - and their revelation is compelling, enabling and inspiring. Scientists don’t spend hours lying to each other. We owe it to ourselves to go to school for a few more hours, now and then.
Women are the principal victims of obesity. Men can mix their unwanted heft with muscle (becoming a size larger was once adaptive) but they too risk being trapped in truckers’ diets centered on gas stations, donuts and beer. Increasingly, they have escalating suicide rates as their employment options fade, with growing automation. The sexual attractiveness of both sexes recedes as quickly as their unwanted pounds accumulate.
Despite this, there is one secret code to escape this trap, for those who are ready to renounce carb addiction: LCHF (Low Carb Healthy Fat).
A together woman can be the key partner of any man’s reformation. This is too infrequent today; although the salvation of both lies right there in
Jones’ Law: Restrict carbs and return to your genetic weight.
(Here’s a family photo from 1908, and some idea of what my genetic weight might have been historically ).
So I had to re-learn Atkins a few years ago, before which I had no (working) solution for being overweight. About 1980 I had despaired - my once passable body gradually putting on weight - this at a time when I was ‘returned’ into the mating market. I’d have been fearful of becoming what is now described as an ‘incel’ or involuntary celibate, if the notion existed. This is a serious and corrosive maladaptation to life. But it wasn’t a meme yet.
I had heard about this new ‘Atkins diet’ with its rapid weight loss claims in the 70’s, and tried it out. I would simply eschew carbs for a month and see what happened. Pleased that I’d quickly lost about 7 lbs - clearly I could lose more if I continued. Unfortunately, I was immersed in recreational hockey as an organizer, and addicted to a few beers and nachos after my numerous games. Atkins had no room for carbs in his regime, and together with my bachelor food tastes it became a losing battle, an option soon discarded as one more short-term ‘diet’.
In the ensuing years I continued adding one pound a year, an uncanny progression of a predictably chronic condition- so that 25 years later I weighed 25 lbs more. This time it cost me a wife, who confessed that I wasn’t in her dreams much anymore. It was just a matter of time, and I would indeed become one more ‘incel’. No amount of eating oatmeal, or wholesome cooking and baking for my kids changed anything.
What I lacked was the knowledge of where the fulcrum was - it’s back there in our Neolithic diet, evolved by our hunter-gatherer ancestors. And it will stay there, geologic time etc. does not admit of nouveau poseurs.
A few years ago I came across ‘LCHF ’ mentions in social media, for a ‘diet’ derived from the old Atkins scheme of the 1970’s - and it became my ‘burning bush’ moment.
Here was that meat diet again, with pictures of bacon and eggs, barbequed steaks, seafood and salads. How could this be a diet - it seemed like a man’s protein-soaked heaven? Should I perhaps move adjacent to a Greek restaurant?
As I read through it, I came across some unequivocal YouTube interviews featuring Gary Taubes, after which it became clear that if I continued this time - the pounds would recede. Observing scientific, true professionals is the only way to educate ourselves about the strangely approachable biochemistry of nutrition. Soon I was instructing my own doctor about insulin resistance, while resisting his statins...
Within six months I was back to my genetic weight of 1980, which had been 180 lbs in youth. I tried for the full keto regime, but fell back to the realism of low carb, and stayed there. I do observe wine o’clock with my complicit wife - one mustn’t become an extremist...not sustainable, they say.
When we incorporate keto and fasting as emergency weapons (defeats cancer BTW) the nutrition war becomes one of a relaxed LCHF strategy, to progressively migrate away from carbs toward the produce of our soon-to-be-restored grasslands - meat. It is likely that the prime beneficiaries of LCHF may then be healthy, sugar-free children with robust, disease-free parents. Us.
2) DNA Stewardship - Caring for our own seed
Once our personal, spousal and family LCHF nutrition is understood and practiced (and there is no need to first argue everything out with malnourished vegans) the next item of business should be DNA stewardship. This concept is discussed in some detail in my other articles and this is my personal viewpoint as a philosopher - for your own consideration.
There are two basic premises:
a) The DNA in every living cell in our body carries our complete blueprint for duplicating our existing phenotype (current body) when regenerated (see below). It contains your biological identity and franchise in this Universe.
b) Biobanking can cryopreserve our blood samples - unchanged and pristine for at least a century - it’s a commercial service now offered by advanced biobanks. The cost is less than $100/year.
These cryobanks are time machines that take care of our seed, the way a farmer sets aside some wheat for her next growing season. This is straightforward and affordable, for our own knowledge and action, and is not some futuristic promise of Big Pharma. The kit is about $500 for a purified, fortified sample of your seed (above) and anchor in Life’s miraculous franchise.
Please read and comment on my other articles, your interest is appreciated. DNA stewardship is just housekeeping, taking this chance to get aboard the future of our species - yes! - but also ensuring that you will participate in that venture as personal destiny.
3) Ectogenesis - Appraising the Opportunity
While men are at the forefront of technologies to slow aging, promote longevity, enhance cognition, embrace AI, investigate transhumanism and ‘the singularity’ - there is not much of anything specific to the substantial fraction of humans who are women. Men wisecrack that women should remain ‘barefoot and pregnant’ because men do only think of one thing - themselves. Little do they realize that these goalposts are moving, fast.
Not for men are the ordeals of birth control, pregnancy, childbirth, nursing and the unceasing obligations of motherhood, too often faced within job obligations. Men are expected to remain sympatico - to ‘participate’ in these stages to variable degrees - but all of that remains optional. Sometimes they choose to do little beyond the act of copulation - they might instead regard washing dishes as akin to a personal baptism into the sacred alliance of a home - with their spouse.
This is not to denigrate the bond between a man and a woman - the superglue of our species. It always has been. Evolution remains ready itself, to adapt. Men were protectors, hunters, warriors, instructors of their young, builders of their homes and villages, hard working farmers. Hunters and fishermen.
But as humans become ever more comfortable, the hardships of Neolithic life centuries ago continue to fade into cultural memory. Women must deal with the fact that they have just two decades to decide whether childbirth is for them - and many demur, delay, and agonize their way through those evaporating years of fertility. The burden of choice, and of children per se is not borne equally any more - if it ever was.
All that is about to undergo profound change, as women are soon to be granted options for pregnancy, gestation, childbirth - even death itself - through biotech. This is the realm of ectogenesis - the artificial womb - and all humans, men included will share in its profound ability to offer homo sapiens an optional reproductive option - beyond conception and the gestation of a fetus in a woman. It will become a process.
A serendipitous glimpse of what this notion of an artificial womb might mean to women is seen in the above exemplary video by the tech educator Cleo Abram. Known for her well produced, candid investigations of topical science - she decided to look into the state of embryonic and organ regeneration technologies, and its spectrum of issues from conception, up to supporting premature babies.
She suddenly had to make a very personal decision on whether something like an artificial womb might be right for her some day…or sooner.
For now, it is enough to anticipate ectogenesis as an imminent technology being expanded beyond its current support for premature babies, before the uproar that will ensue when it comes to optionally replacing natural pregnancy and gestation.
This revolution will also enable regeneration of either sex from their own DNA, and that option will likely draw even more scrutiny, from all parties concerned. All are personal portals that any human can access with DNA stewardship and foresight.
Not to worry, because biobanking will, in the meantime replace cemeteries, mausoleums and memorials crypts, as an alternative to burial or cremation. Their time has passed. The deep cold is a time machine available to all. Vitrified DNA (-137C) remains unchanged, while humans work through their alignment with these technologies and social attitudes of the interim.
It will be an internal species matter to adapt to these radical new options. Cryobanks have incredible patience.
This is a distinct pathway for women to individually understand the critical role of whole foods, their own seed and their personal destiny options. As it is for any man, they can return to being the wondrous apparitions nature made them, before factories fed us.
